Ryan Hinkle / Producer

I've spent 15 years helping artists make records that sound the way they imagined.

Every project shows up differently. Sometimes it's a finished song that needs the right set of ears. Sometimes it's a voice memo and a phrase someone can't stop humming. Sometimes it's just a feeling that doesn't have a shape yet.

My job is to figure out what it actually needs. That might mean co-writing, arranging, building out the production from scratch. It might mean hiring the right players, managing the session, getting a mix across the finish line. It might mean recognizing that the song is already saying what it needs to say and the best thing I can do is stay out of its way.

I went to Berklee, which I mostly mention so you know I take the music (and the student loan debt) seriously. I spent almost twenty years in Boston's studio world, working out of rooms like Sanctum Sound, Herd Studio, and The Bridge Sound and Stage. I've worked with artists and brands you'd probably recognize across a range of styles and settings. But the credits aren't really the point. But the credits aren't really the point.

The point is what happens when you're in the room. The best work comes when an artist feels safe enough to try things that might not work. When the person behind the board is listening to what you mean, not just what you're playing. That's always mattered more to me than anything technical.

Emilia Ali — "Beautiful"
Emilia has a voice that doesn't need any help. A few hours of tracking in my basement studio in Allston, chasing that zone where you stop thinking and just sing.

beach week — "Doom Mood"
Kenji and Ethan brought me most of this song. I turned a guitar part into a bass line, reworked the arrangement a little, added some trippy synth plucks/shakers, and spent most of my time on the vocals. Sometimes the job is knowing what to add and what to leave alone.

Elise Koscso — "Bold"
Elise had a few remote production and mix lessons with me, then produced and recorded this whole song from home (she’s a beast), and sent me the session. I rebuilt the vocals from her stems, added a tiny sound or two, then edited and mixed it. Her ability to catch me off guard with her music is one of my favorite things about her.

"Hink is home." — Jonny Glenn

I've worked with artists like Emilia Ali (100M+ streams), Jonny Glenn, Valentine Byrne, and Bill Dwyer, alongside commercial sessions for The Voice, Travel Channel, and Reebok. Other session credits include Godsmack, Bastille, and Justin Bieber.

Kind Words

"Not only does he create a judgment free environment, but his creative and unique ideas are inspiring and motivating. He gives great feedback and really understood the sound I wanted to create. He's hilarious and gets shit DONE!!!" — Elise Koscso

"One of THE BEST engineers I've EVER had the pleasure of working with & I've worked with many great ones dating back over 30 years in the music business. He creates a focused yet relaxed & creative atmosphere which is custom tailored to each individual artist." — Bill Dwyer

"He listens and knows what direction to take a project without deviating from your vision." — Valentine Byrne

"He showed me an unparalleled ability to listen to my ideas and turn them into actionable plans. He has the ability to see everything that needs to be done on the way to completing a vision." — Will Cady

"He has been involved in my development as an artist from the get-go and has touched every song or project in some way. By far the most reliable engineer that I've worked with. Always goes above and beyond, even when you're not 'on the clock.' Hard to find these days." — Jonny Glenn

Toggle between the original demo and the finished production. Both versions play from the same point so you can hear exactly what changed.
Drew Culhane — "Transpacific"
A song about searching for identity across three countries. We talked about Sturgill Simpson, mapped out the bones, and brought in players to build around his guitar.

AJ Ratti — "Thunderstorm"
I was posting a song idea a day in January. He asked about writing to one of them. That became this.

If you've got something you're working on, send it over. A rough mix, a voice memo, a half-finished idea. I'll listen and we can talk about what it needs.

Based in Cleveland. Work with artists everywhere.
